Just how sustainable is M+

We are committed to closed loop material cycles

M+ Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From the design concept through to our production and everything in between.
For us, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it is the foundation that helps us shape a better future. We believe that sustainability isn’t just about the choice of materials, but also about how we manufacture, use, and reuse our products.

Therefore, we pursue a systematic approach to circular principles: We design with nature in mind and ensure that our products can be reused time and time again. We consider what happens after a product’s life cycle ends and how we can minimize the environmental impact.

Shapeshifting furniture: sustainable and flexible

M+ relies on shapeshifting furniture: Furniture that adapts to the changing needs of the user. Thanks to the modular design, our products can be easily modified, expanded, or rearranged without the need for new components. This makes our furniture not only flexible but also sustainable in its use.

Our vision is clear: to use products for as long as possible. To achieve this, we use new, intelligent materials and develop designs that are geared towards repair, reuse in many cycles, and – when required, the end-of-life recycling of the materials used.

Sustainable design: The future begins today

In many cases, a product’s design determines its sustainability. At M+, we make decisions that contribute to a circular economy. That’s why we developed the M+ concept. A concept based on simplicity and reusability. With just a few basic elements, we can create countless configurations without being limited to standard sizes or shapes. Thanks to an innovative system, the parts of the M+ system can be easily adapted or replaced. This allows the product to remain in use for years without ending up in a landfill. And when it does reach the end of its life cycle, we ensure that the materials are recycled.

Our designs are not only modular but also versatile. All M+ products are built to last and can be adapted to the user’s needs at any time. This makes our furniture not only practical but also future proof. Furthermore, we work with fabrics that are easy to clean or replace, allowing the products to enter a new phase of life without immediately ending up in the waste stream.

Sustainable production: less waste, greater impact

At M+, we consider not only product development but also how we produce. Since our founding, we have been a pioneer in sustainable production. Our focus is always on minimizing waste and maximizing the lifespan of our products. For the M+ series, we use materials such as EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) plastic. This material is lightweight, robust, durable, and fully recyclable. It is manufactured without harmful gases and can be reused endlessly without any loss of quality.

Energy-self-sufficient production facility in Tilburg

Our production facilities are not only efficient, but also energy efficient. Our energy-independent building in Tilburg exemplifies our understanding of sustainability. The green facilities, solar panels, and rainwater harvesting systems help to minimize our ecological footprint. We use raw materials that are sourced locally wherever possible. We work with partners who, like us, emphasize the importance of sustainability. Our wood, for example, comes from Prospecs, our own sustainable wood processing company, which uses certified wood for all our furniture.

Unprecedentedly low ecological footprint

That M+ is exceptionally sustainable is also demonstrated by the results from INSIDE/INSIDE – the independent online platform that provides insights into the sustainability, circular economy, and health of indoor spaces. INSIDE/INSIDE calculated that the ecological footprint of a three-seater M+ modular sofa is around three euros. By comparison, the footprint of a “normal” sofa quickly exceeds one hundred euros.

CO₂-passport

At Moduplus, we use CO₂ passports for the basic elements of M+Room. These clearly illustrate the CO₂ impact of these products. Raw material extraction, transport, and manufacturing are all considered. This is compared to the production of other common product types, allowing you to easily compare and know exactly what you’re buying.

Focus on people, nature, and the environment: socially responsible entrepreneurship.

Sustainability doesn’t stop with the product itself. It extends to everything we do. At M+, we take responsibility for the society in which we live and work. We care not only about nature, but also the local community, the environment and our workforce. We offer opportunities to people who face barriers to employment, support young talent, and ensure an inclusive workplace. ROFA, our parent company, is a recognized training provider and offers employment opportunities for everyone, regardless of race, language, or religion.

We also collaborate with local companies like Fabraa for textiles and ensure that our suppliers adhere to strict sustainability standards. This allows us to deliver products that are not only good for the user but also for the world around us. It’s a cyclical process where every link in the chain contributes to the overall picture. We consider the impact of all our actions; from the raw materials we use to the way we market our products.

A vision for the future

Our mission is simple: We want to create products that are not only functional but also contribute to a more sustainable future. Every product we manufacture is designed for reusability, minimal waste, and maximum customer benefit. We believe in the potential to transform the furniture industry by developing products that last longer and can be reused for new applications at the end of their life cycle.

By implementing the principles of a circular economy, we are creating a world where old furniture doesn’t end up as waste or in landfill but serves as valuable raw material for new products. With the M+ modular system, our customers have the flexibility and choice to adapt their furniture to changing needs without having to buy completely new products. This allows us to remain sustainable and innovative, with a clear focus on the future.

At M+, we take our responsibility seriously. For nature, for people, and for the future. We believe that sustainability is more than just a trend; it’s the way we work and the foundation for everything we do. Together, we are making the world a little bit better and more sustainable.
